Salary: $8,921,315 per annum
JOB PURPOSE
Under the direction of the Anatomical Pathology Consultants, the incumbent is responsible to perform and report on routine autopsies, read and report on histology and cytology slides and oversee the grossing of histology samples.
KEY RESPONSIBILITY AREAS/MANAGEMENT/ADMINISTRATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist in planning and supervising the work of junior residents and senior house officers
- Provide guidance, motivation and direction to subordinates including assisting consultants in setting performance standards and monitoring performance
- Work in conjunction with other staff members to solve problems, determine protocols and implement procedures for the better functioning of the department
- In conjunction with CMT’s to arbitrate disputes among staff members and refer to the appropriate responsible officer
- Work in conjunction with consultants and senior staff at NPHL to solve problems, determine protocols and implement procedures for the better functioning of the laboratory
TECHNICAL /Professional Responsibilities
- Supervision of sample grossing by junior medical staff, technologists or pathology assistants.
- Grossing of histology samples if no junior staff are available.
- Diagnose disease using techniques such as histology, cytology, fine needle aspiration, immunology and molecular biology when available.
- Perform routine autopsies to determine the cause of death and offer clinicopathology correlation to assist clinicians.
- Communicate pathologic findings to surgeons and other physicians verbally and by writing pathology reports, summarizing analyses, results and conclusions.
- Educate and train physicians, medical students, personnel in professions supplementary to medicine and personnel in medical laboratory professions.
- Any other duties assigned by supervisors.
MINIMUM REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Post graduate training in Anatomical Pathology from a recognized institution
- Full registration with Medical Council of Jamaica
