Senior Library Assistant (PIDG/LA 2) (Vacant)

Salary Range: $ 852,190 – $ 988,280 per annum

 

JOB PURPOSE

Under the supervision of the Librarian, the Senior Library Assistant assists in providing easy access to the information resources of the Ministry of Health & Wellness.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITY AREAS

  • Prepares individual work plan;
  • Provides assistance to librarian in the maintenance of collection of  books, periodicals, magazines, newspaper,  audiovisual and other materials
  • Assists with cataloguing & classification of Library Materials;
  • Enters cataloguing data into the library’s automated system;
  • Completes cataloguing records where only partial copy is available;
  • Ascertains and assigns subject headings and cross-reference;
  • Guides readers in the use of the Library;
  • Issues materials to readers and instructs them in the use of research tools;
  • Replaces materials issued to readers;
  • Processes resources for placement on shelf;
  • Conducts inventory of library resources;
  • Prepares and files client’s cards;
  • Assists in the selection of materials for acquisition by the Library by perusing materials such as journals, bibliographies and catalogues to ascertain the availability of materials for the Library;
  • Prepares accessions lists and maintains record of library use;
  • Abstracts and indexes journals
  • Indexes  materials for the pamphlet collection
  • Maintains circulation files and records;
  • Recognizes material for bindery and make recommendations to the Librarian;
  • Assists in the mounting of displays/exhibitions;
  • Distributes posters and brochures;
  • Assists with receiving and dealing with the public, telephone queries, attending meetings and workshops

  • Knowledge of abstracting and indexing skills

  • Interviewing techniques in relation to client needs
  • Proficiency in the use of relevant computer software and computer applications

 

MINIMUM REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Certificate in Library Science.
  • One (1) year in a similar position.
