The Ministry of Health and Wellness is seeking to recruit a suitably qualified person to fill the position of Research Officer (SOG/ST 6) (Band 9) (vacant), Standards & Regulation Division, with salary of $5,198,035 per annum.
JOB PURPOSE
To provide research services to assist in the department of health sector standards which are relevant to Jamaica’s needs and which conform to international standards.
KEY OUTPUT
- Standards for professional conduct and institutional management within the health sector researched and documented.
- Standards developed and conform to international standards.
- Research studies identified and carried out in collaboration with research agencies (National and International)
Key responsibility areas INCLUDES:
- Conducts research and documents standards/norms for the registration and re-registration of health care institutions in both the public and private sector
- Develops standards for the accreditation of health related training programmes in collaboration with training institutions.
- Reviews and documents existing standards for health professionals, both traditional and non-traditional, in collaboration with Councils and Professional Associations.
- Maintains a database of health standards in developed and developing countries.
- Collaborates with the Jamaica Bureau of Standards and other national and international organisations in developing and implementing research programmes.
- Ensures that all standards developed are relevant and conform to international criteria/guidelines.
- Collaborates with the Director, Health Support and Monitoring in developing standards for patient evaluation and treatment.
- Assists in familiarizing health professional with prescribed standards.
- Ensures the compilation and dissemination of standards t relevant persons.
- Performs any other related duties as assigned by the Director, Standards Research and Development.

- Standards/norms developed are consistent with international criteria
- Standards disseminated to relevant institution/personnel
- A database of national and international standards is developed and maintained
Minimum Required Education and Experience
- B.Sc. in Health related Science/Management Studies/Public Administration
- Plus at least three (3) years’ experience in conducting research in the health sector
