JOB PURPOSE
Reporting to the Registered Nurse Manager, Registered Nurse (Blood Bank) is responsible for providing high-quality care to blood donors and ensuring the safe collection, storage, and handling of blood donations. This role involves donor recruitment, screening, collection, and post-donation care, as well as education and support for donors.
KEY RESPONSIBILITY AREAS
Administrative Responsibilities
- Adhere to all protocols, procedures, and regulations related to blood donation and transfusion services.
- Ensure compliance with all health and safety regulations, including infection control and OSHA standards.
- Maintain accurate and confidential donor records.
- Work closely with the Blood Bank team, including other nurses, phlebotomists, and administrative staff.
- Coordinate with physicians and healthcare providers as necessary.
- Assist in organizing and managing blood drives and donor recruitment events.
Technical /Professional
- Conduct pre-donation screenings, including medical history and physical assessments, to determine donor eligibility.
- Educate potential donors about the donation process, benefits, and eligibility criteria.
- Recruit and retain regular donors through community outreach and educational programs.
- Perform venipuncture for blood collection, ensuring donor safety and comfort throughout the process.
- Monitor donors during and after the donation process for any adverse reactions or complications.
MINIMUM REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelors Degree in Nursing at an accredited institution
- Registration with Nursing Council in Jamaica
- Basic Life Support certificate would be an asset
