JOB PURPOSE
The National Coordinator is responsible for coordinating and directing physiotherapy services island-wide; developing national policies and strategies in the field of physiotherapy and providing advice and guidance to the respective Ministries and or facilities on all technical matters relating to Physiotherapy. The National Coordinator is also required to develop programmes to update and maintain required professional standards and optimum patient care.
KEY RESPONSIBILITY AREAS
Technical
- Participates in the development of programmes to improve service delivery island-wide.
- Develops and monitors the implementation of programmes to ensure programmes/activities are carried out according to the National Strategic plan; assesses progress and initiates changes where necessary to achieve desired results.
- Coordinates and monitors the services provided by physiotherapists including the Internship Programme, where applicable.
- Develops and implements policies and strategies to strengthen and expand the role of the Physiotherapist into the facility, Primary Health Care System and the Community.
- Provides advice and guidance to the relevant Ministry, for example, Ministry of Health, Regional Health Authorities, health facilities and related stakeholders on matters related to Physiotherapy and Health Care Management.
- Conducts audits of Physiotherapy Departments as required.
- Provides advice and guidance to related stakeholders in matters related to Physiotherapy.
- Liaises with international partners to enhance expertise and make improvements to the physiotherapy profession.
- Develops and implements proposals and strategies to expand/integrate the services of physiotherapy across ministries and departments.
Administrative Responsibilities
- Develops, implements and monitors norms and quality standards for Physiotherapy, which are consistent with international standards.
- Leads the development and implementation of national policies and strategies in the field of Physiotherapy in keeping with international standards.
- Develops operational and strategic plans for the Physiotherapy Service in direct collaboration with the Heads of Departments/rehab facility.
- Develops criteria for establishing physiotherapy services in health facilities throughout the island.
- Establishes and maintains a data management system for service delivery island-wide.
MINIMUM REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Masters’ Degree in Management Studies or equivalent with training in Public Administration and Operational Management;
- Bachelor of Science in Physical Therapy
- Minimum 12 years’ experience in clinical practice; 7 years’ experience at the senior management level
- Certificate in Health Care Administration
- Licensed with the Council of Professions Supplementary to Medicine (CPSM)
