Health Policy Coordinator (GMG/SEG 3) (Vacant)

Basic Salary: $2,551,250-$ 3,032,634 per annum

Travelling Allowance of $ 894,024 per annum (with motor car)

 

JOB PURPOSE

Under the general direction of the Permanent Secretary, the incumbent is responsible for developing and directing all health and mental health activities of the Ministry and its regional health authorities.

 

KEY OUTPUT

  • Cabinet Submissions prepared and submitted
  • Reports are prepared and submitted.
  • Legislative Programmes coordinated
  • Cabinet decisions are implemented and monitored.

 

Key responsibility areas INCLUDE:

  • Prepare Cabinet Submissions, Cabinet Notes, Human Resource Council Submissions, Legislation Committee Submissions, and Ministry Paper
  • Prepare briefs on draft Bills for the Minister
  • Coordinated the development of the Ministry’s Legislative Programme and prepare monthly status reports of all Boards
  • Prepare Briefs on draft Bills that are before Parliament
  • Attend Human Resource Council and Legislation Committee meetings
  • Monitor the status of all Boards, Councils and Tribunals. Ensure the appointment and gazetting of new Boards/Councils as well as any changes in their membership
  • Prepare Ministry Papers in connection with Annual Reports
  • Prepare/update reports on the implementation of Cabinet Decisions, Annual Reports etc. for submission to the Cabinet Officer.
  • Monitor the implementation of cabinet decisions.
  • Liaise with the Office of the Parliamentary Counsel, Attorney General’s Chambers, and the Legal Reform Department in the completion of all legislation as well as obtaining advice on specific issues.
  • Liaise with Jamaica Printing Services Ltd. to ensure the timely gazetting of Regulations and Boards/Councils

 

Minimum Required Education and Experience 

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Health, Public Policy or Social Science related field.
  • At least two (2) years of experience working on health policy development
  • A Master’s degree in a related field would be a distinct advantage.
