Several private doctors were trained as part of the National Response to the zika virus in Jamaica over the period February 9-February 13, 2016 through the partnership of the Bank of Nova Scotia and the Ministry of Health.
The Ministry of Health has been conducting ongoing training in an effort to update both the public and private health professionals on the current situation with Zika Virus Infection globally and regionally and to provide guidance as it relates to the management of the zika virus in Jamaica.
The topics for the training included epidemiological surveillance, clinical management, laboratory diagnosis, and integrated vector management. The sessions with the private practitioners also provided the opportunity for discussions on the emerging information on Zika Virus.
Along with the training and several other strategies, the Ministry of Health continues to encourage persons to get rid of mosquito breeding sites and to protect themselves from mosquito bites through its public education campaign.
As a continuation of the vector control activities, the Ministry of Health will be embarking on a National Cleanup Day scheduled for this Saturday, February 20 under the theme “Operation: Mosquito Search and Destroy” along with many stakeholders.
The Bank of Nova Scotia is among many other Private Sector Companies that has joined with the Ministry of Health to tackle zika virus in Jamaica.
