Minister of Health, Hon. Horace Dalley is appealing to anyone who may have any information about last night’s brutal murder of a member of the health team to assist the police in their investigation.
Ray Charles Brown, a Psychiatric Nursing Aide attached to the Community Mental Health Unit of the St. Catherine Health Services in the South East Regional Health Authority was killed and members of his family including his wife injured after thieves broke into his Spanish Town, St. Catherine home last night. His wife is also a member of the health team.
“Mr. Brown dedicated his life to helping those in need especially the most vulnerable. This is what makes this situation even more disturbing. I appeal to the police to leave no stones unturned to bring the perpetrators to justice and citizens to aid in the investigations,” Minister Dalley said.
Meanwhile Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Marion Bullock DuCasse says the team is very saddened by the loss of one of its members who has been working with them for the last ten years. She says the Ministry will ensure that counseling is available to all those who require it.
Permanent Secretary, Dr. Kevin Harvey says Mr. Brown gave years of service to his country and so the circumstances of his death are very unfortunate. He said despite the difficult situation the health team remains committed to serving the people of Jamaica.
The Minister, Permanent Secretary, Chief Medical Officer and the entire Ministry of Health staff expressed condolences to the family and friends of Mr. Brown and indicated that the Ministry stands ready provide support as much as it possibly can. The team also wishes Mrs. Brown and the other family members a speedy recovery.
