The Ministry of Health is appealing to pregnant women and all persons with chronic illnesses such as diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease and asthma, who may live in flood prone or low lying areas that may be cut off due to heavy rainfall to seek shelter close to a health facility.
In the event that persons with chronic diseases have to evacuate their homes, they should ensure that they take their medications with them to their place of shelter. They should also continue to take their medications as prescribed by the doctor, while away from home.
Pregnant women especially those within one month of their delivery date should relocate to family or friends who are in close proximity to a hospital or delivery centre.
The Ministry of Health is reminding all persons to take every precaution to safeguard health and life and to listen to medical advisories as we prepare for the severe weather expected to affect the island in a matter of hours.
