The Minister of Health, Hon. Horace Dalley is appealing to Jamaicans to donate blood as part of their act of kindness this festive season and especially since the National Blood Transfusion Service (NBTS) continues to experience low volumes of blood in storage.
Minister Dalley said “giving blood is an act of kindness but most importantly giving blood saves lives. We are making a special appeal to everyone to save a life today and everyday by becoming a voluntary blood donor.”
“Violence and unintentional injuries such as those caused by motor vehicle crashes continue to put a heavy burden on the health system and place a high demand on the blood supply. Blood is also needed to treat cancer patients, persons with bleeding disorders, chronic anaemias and is even required to save the lives of some pregnant women,” he added.
