Jamaicans required to be vaccinated for travel to US

COVID-19 Vaccines administered in Jamaica will be accepted

The Centres for Disease Control and Prevention in the United States on Monday announced that effective November 8, 2021 all non-immigrant, non-citizen air travelers to the USA will be required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19, and to provide proof of vaccination status prior to boarding an airplane to the States. This new Order will affect Jamaicans who wish to travel to the USA.

In light of this, the Ministry of Health & Wellness is reminding Jamaicans that there are several access points for members of the public to be vaccinated. These access points include the over 60 fixed health sites across the island; some 17 private sector facilities; along with several vaccination sites established by the Private Sector Vaccine Initiative; the mobile units and pop-up blitzes at offices and in town centres.

Health & Wellness Minister, Dr. the Hon. Christopher Tufton has noted that, “this was only a matter of time, as countries around the world continue to implement their recovery plan and formulate their new normal. This is an added incentive for Jamaicans to become vaccinated, as all the vaccines currently available in country, which are approved by the World Health Organization will be accepted by the US Government.”

In addition to satisfying travel requirements, the Ministry continues to encourage Jamaicans to get vaccinated against COVID-19, to help prevent serious illness, hospitalisation and/or death. For details on vaccination sites, members of the public may visit vaccination.moh.gov.jm.

Up to 6:00 pm today (October 25), Jamaica had administered some 896,637 doses of COVID-19 vaccines. Of that number, 535,120 were first doses, 316,179 were second doses and 45,338 were single doses.
