Jamaica records 67 new COVID-19 cases, 29 more recoveries

Jamaica’s confirmed COVID-19 cases are now up to 1,413, with the addition of 67 new positives in the last 24 hours. Also in the last 24 hours, 29 more persons have recovered and been discharged, bringing the total number of recoveries to 817 or 58%.

Of the 67 newly confirmed cases, there were 31 males and 36 females, with ages ranging from eight (8) months to 77 years. They have addresses in Kingston and St. Andrew (21), St. Thomas (22), St. Catherine (12), Clarendon (6), St. James (2), St. Elizabeth (1), Hanover (1), Portland (1), and St. Ann (1). 

Eleven (11) of the 67 new cases are contacts of confirmed cases; one (1) is an imported case (1) from the Dominican Republic and 55 are under investigation.

At this time, of the 1,413 total confirmed positives, there are 434 imported cases; 448 cases that are contacts of confirmed cases; 236 cases related to the workplace cluster in St. Catherine; 125 are local transmissions not epidemiologically linked; and 170 are under investigation.

Some 766 or 54% of the total confirmed cases are females and 647 or 46% are males, with ages ranging from two (2) months to 89 years.

There are now 508 or 35.9% active cases being monitored, including five who are moderately ill and four (4) who are critically ill. Some 71 or 5.0% of persons have returned to their countries of origin while 16 or 1.1% have died. One COVID-19 case is classified as a coincidental death. This case died in hospital from traumatic wounds and was found to be COVID-19 positive on routine testing.

                                         

Pharmacy Services for Quarantine Communities

The National Health Fund (NHF), an agency of the Ministry of Health & Wellness, as customary will be filling prescriptions and providing other pharmacy services in the quarantined communities, as per the schedule below:
