Over the last 24 hours, Jamaica has recorded five (5) new COVID-19 cases and 17 additional recoveries. The island now has a record of 883 confirmed positives and 743 recoveries.
The newly confirmed cases are comprised of two (2) females and three (3) males, with ages ranging from 33 to 60 years. They have addresses in Kingston and St. Andrew (1), Clarendon (1), Manchester (1), St. Ann (1) and St. Thomas (1).
Three (3) of the five (5) cases were imported, having arrived in the island recently via flights from the United States. The other two (2) cases are under investigation.
At this time, there are 338 imported cases; 246 cases that are contacts of confirmed cases; 44 local transmission cases not epidemiologically linked; 236 related to the workplace cluster in St. Catherine; and 19 under investigation.
Some 499 (57%) are females and 384 (43%) are males. They range in age from 2 months to 87 years.
Of the 883 confirmed positives, in addition to the 743 (84.1%) who have recovered, 48 (5.4%) have repatriated; and 10 (1.1%) have died. There are 82 (9.3 %) active cases currently under observation, including one moderately ill patient. There are no critically ill persons at this time.
The Ministry of Health and Wellness is advising members of the public to remain vigilant in the practice of COVID-19 prevention and control measures, including the frequent washing of hands with soap and water; maintaining the prescribed six feet physical distance from others; and wearing a mask when in public situations.
Persons coming into the country are reminded that they must comply with quarantine orders, to help to protect their own health and the health of others.
