Jamaica Moves, the flagship NCDs response programme of the Ministry of Health & Wellness will be on full display during the Walk The Talk: Health For All Challenge on Sunday, May 26, 2024 in Geneva, Switzerland.
The Ministry of Health & Wellness Jamaica has been specially invited to infuse its Jamaica Moves brand in this fun run/walk organized by the World Health Organization (WHO), as it ends its 75th anniversary celebration. The Walk the Talk event also acts as a precursor to the 77th Annual World Health Assembly that will see health officials convening in Geneva to discuss the global health agenda from May 27 to June 2.
The Ministry of Health &Wellness will engage members of the delegation and other local participants through an interactive booth display that will showcase the Jamaica Moves components of physical activity, nutrition and health screening in its three settings – schools, workplaces and communities.
Jamaica Moves is part of the country’s coordinated national response to the increased incidences of non-communicable diseases. The campaign is designed to educate, engage and build supportive environments, with the goal of reducing NCDs by 25% by the year 2025.
The programme has gained national, regional and international attention, having been awarded the Jamaica Gleaner Honours Award for Health and Wellness in 2018 as well as public endorsement by the Director General of the WHO, Dr. Tedros Ghebreyesus and CARICOM leaders. Additionally, The programme has adopted by several areas and countries.
Walk the Talk is a free physical activity event for all, including for people walking, running and using wheelchairs, offering 2 distances (short 3km and long 4.2km) around “international” and “local” Geneva linking key health, international and touristic landmarks. It aims to promote #HealthForAll and, particularly a healthy lifestyle, for a healthier humanity.
