Ground broken for a Western Children and Adolescents Hospital

The Government of Jamaica led by Prime Minister, The Most Hon.  Andrew Holness, ON, MP and the Minister of Health & Wellness, Dr. the Hon. Christopher Tufton, broke ground yesterday for the construction of the US$43 Million Western Children and Adolescents Hospital on the compound of the Cornwall Regional Hospital on Wednesday, October 23, 2019. The facility is a gift from the Government of the People’s Republic of China and is a 220-bed, seven floor complex with a 60-room resident facility for health professionals from Western Jamaica.

The Children and Adolescent Hospital will be the first of its kind in the English-speaking Caribbean, offering specialist medical care for children and young people up to age 18 years. Minister of Health and Wellness Dr Christopher Tufton, who welcomed the construction of the facility, stated; “The Western Children and Adolescents Hospital is a significant indication of the commitment of our honourable Prime Minister and the Administration to advance the improvement of public health infrastructure.”
