A recruitment drive by the Western Regional Health Authority for nurses has had good response with 35 Registered Nurses being employed at the start of this month.
The recruits have been undergoing orientation ahead of being deployed at the Cornwall Regional Hospital (CRH) in St James and Falmouth General Hospital in Trelawny. CRH which has the greatest need at this time has been assigned 31 nurses from the batch.
A release from the WRHA said more nurses were needed, particularly senior specialist nurses.
Last November, the WRHA advertised for applicants to fill a list of vacancies for doctors and nurses at hospitals and health centres in the region, particularly CRH, Savanna-la-Mar and Noel Holmes hospitals as well as the Trelawny and Westmoreland health departments.
Cornwall Regional is also seeking a Consultant for Accident & Emergency, Medical Officers and a Microbiologist while Savanna-la-Mar Hospital is also in need of a Consultant for its Accident & Emergency department; a Consultant for General Surgery, a Senior Resident in Internal Medicine and Medical Officers.
Also in Westmoreland, the WRHA needs a Medical Officer for the parish and District Medical Officers for the Darliston Centre of Excellence.
Medical Officers are also being sought for Noel Holmes Hospital and the Trelawny Health Department.
