A primary focus in this area was the management of outbreaks and emergency events relating to vector-borne disease.

Monitoring of Points of Entry is also a responsibility of this area. The multi-agency team that was formed comprising representatives from Jamaica Customs, Passport Immigration and Citizenship Agency (PICA), Ministry of Agriculture-Veterinary Division, Marine Police Division of the Jamaica Constabulary Force, the Food Infestation and Storage Division of the Ministry of Industry, Investment and Commerce and the Ministry of Health has the mandate of developing certain core capacities in order to detect, assess and then respond to Public Health Events of International Concern (PHEIC).
