The National Surveillance Unit in the Ministry of Health & Wellness has reported in the last 24 hours, two (2) samples that have tested positive for COVID-19. The total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Jamaica is now at 509.
The newly confirmed cases are males, 48 and 74 years from St. Catherine, and Kingston and Saint Andrew, respectively. One is a contact of a confirmed case related to the workplace cluster and the other under investigation.
At this time there are forty-one (41) imported cases; 193 cases are contacts of confirmed cases (25 cases are import-related, 61 are related to local transmission cases (not epidemiologically linked), 96 are contacts of employees in the workplace cluster in St. Catherine, 11 are contacts of confirmed cases under investigation),
Additionally, 24 are local transmission cases not epidemiologically-linked, and 251 are under investigation (224 of those under investigation are linked to the workplace cluster and 27 others).
Some 305 (60%) of the confirmed cases are females and there are 204 (40%) males; while the ages of all confirmed cases range from 2 months to 87 years.
Of the 509 cases confirmed with COVID-19 to date, 113 have recovered (22.2% recovery rate), and 9 persons have died (1.8% death rate). There are 387 (76%) active cases.
Of note, there are no moderately or critically ill cases at this time.
