A New Runaway Bay Health Centre to be Constructed

The residents of Runaway Bay in St. Ann are poised to receive a brand new Health Centre.

The future home for the new Runaway Bay Health Centre will be located at Lot 9, Mount Edgecombe District, Runaway Bay and will comprise of a single storey building with a total floor area of 482 square metres (5188 sq ft) with associated external works and sewage.

Minister of Health, Hon. Horace Dalley said this new health facility will significantly enhance the way in which persons living in the area seek medical care.

Minister Dalley was speaking at the official project launch held on Wednesday, February 17, 2016, at the site for the construction.

Minister Dalley said, “I am happy that we are moving forward with the construction of this new Health Centre as I know that several partners have worked hard in attaining this piece of land and the new facility will significantly improve the quality of services offered to the persons living in this area”.

The existing Runway Bay Health Centre has shown that there is a need for infrastructural change.

The new center which will remain a Type 2 facility will continue to serve approximately 12 communities from the wider St. Ann’s Bay health district and will offer health care services such as curative, maternal and child health include antenatal, postnatal, child health such as immunization and reproductive health including pap smears and family planning.

The bidding process for the construction will take place soon and the National Health Fund will provide funding for the project.
