New Division announced for Health Ministry

  • Renewed focus on Enabling Environment & Client Services

KINGSTON, Jamaica. Tuesday, May 7, 2024: As part of its change management process, the Ministry of Health & Wellness will introduce, this year, a new division called Enabling Environment & Client Services (EECS).

The announcement was made by the Minister of Health & Wellness, Dr. the Hon. Christopher Tufton during his Sectoral presentation in Parliament earlier today.

“This Division will be focused on Client Services/Customer Service, Client Medico-Legal Complaints, Compassionate Care as well as Environment and Human Rights functions,” the Minister revealed.

“Additionally, the Division will facilitate the expansion of our Compassionate Care Programme to train, retrain and re-orient our staff to see the pivot that is necessary for real transformation to take place,” Dr. Tufton said.

The new Division is born out of a Cabinet decision to integrate the National Family Planning Board into the Ministry of Health & Wellness, which will allow for the achievement of synergy in operations and greater efficiency. At the same time, the integration will see the streamlining of services and an avoidance of a duplication of efforts.

The EECS Division will play a key role in the achievement of sustainable health outcomes among marginalised and vulnerable populations. It will also be instrumental in managing cooperation between the health sector, social services sector and civil society.
