Salary Scale: Min: $4,153,080.00 to Max: $4,936,707.00 per annum

 

JOB PURPOSE

Technical Director and the Advisor to the Chief Medical Officer have the responsibility to ensure that the Chief Medical Officer is up to date on all prioritized technical issues of the Ministry of Health and is able to respond in a timely and appropriate manner to events that affect the population.

 

KEY OUTPUTS

  • Report on prioritized areas produced.
  • Special reports on urgent and emergent issues produced.
  • Regular communication with key persons in all service delivery areas carried out.
  • Meeting with Senior Medical Officers and Medical Officers of Health convened.
  • Chief Medical Officer’s meetings meet the needs of the Technical Services.
  • Site visits to service delivery sites are conducted regularly.
  • Routine and special reports and position papers produced.
  • Effective Network/relations with local regional and international bodies/agencies maintained.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITY AREAS INCLUDES:

  • Investigate review and make recommendations to the Chief Medical Officer on urgent and emergent issues that directly affect the delivery of health care service to the population.
  • Liaise between the Chief Medical Officer and Health personnel and priority matters that require the CMO’s attention.
  • Provide technical support to the Chief Medical Officer in conducting background investigations, analysis and reviews of the health systems to enable the appropriate technical input into policies and programmes of the Ministry of Health.
  • Conduct periodic monitoring and evaluation of key initiatives of the MOH.
  • Coordinate technical data from the four technical branches and direct reports to ensure timely updates by the Chief Medical Officer to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Prepare technical documents for the Chief Medical Officer
  • Conduct technical meetings on behalf of the Chief Medical Officer
  • Participate in the activities of a Rapid Response Team to enable smooth, accurate and timely information to the Chief Medical Officer in times of emergencies or disaster.

 

MINIMUM REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • MBBS
  • Post Graduate Degree in Public Health is an asset.
  • A minimum of ten (10) years experience as a practicing medical practitioner at least five of which should be at a senior management level.
