JOB PURPOSE
Under the general direction of the Programme Development Officer – Cancer, the Programme Officer – Cancer is responsible for:
KEY OUTPUT
• Reports prepared and presented
• Protocols developed/updated and disseminated.
• Plans and programmes developed and implemented
• Programme/Project implementation assessments conducted
• Quality of care audits conducted.
• Strategies developed and implemented
• Individual Workplan & Workplan Reviews prepared and submitted as agreed
KEY RESPONSIBILITY AREAS INCLUDES:
• Collaborate with the Programme Development Officer – Cancer in designing national plans and policies for preventing and controlling the incidence and impact of Cancers in Jamaica
• Assist the Programme Development Officer – Cancer in determining priority programmes to be developed and implemented for Cancers
• Assist in the preparation of project proposals for financial and technical assistance for Cancer
• Design programmes to address gaps identified in cancer management with a focus on cancer screening and cancer surveillance
• Monitor programme implementation and design corrective actions, as needed
• Coordinate/assist with the execution of cancer-related projects
• Collaborate with Regional and Parish staff in analysing epidemiological data to determine the causes, levels and patterns of Cancer in Jamaica
• Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of interventions aimed at reducing and controlling the morbidity and mortality rates relating to Cancer
• Collaborate with the Programme Development Officer – Cancer in designing health promotion/communication programmes aimed at reducing the incidence and impact of Cancer.
• Utilize primary and secondary data to project trends in Cancer in Jamaica
• Initiate, design and implement research projects to guide policy to find solutions to problems relating to Cancer
• Keep abreast of trends and development regionally and internationally in relation to Cancer
• Liaise with internal and external stakeholders involved in programmes to control and reduce the impact of Cancer
• Participate in research on Cancer and facilitating multi-disciplinary requests for related data for projects and research
• Conduct field investigation to verify and validate Cancer data received, as required
• Assist in the preparation of protocols, procedures manuals and other documents relative to Cancer
• Coordinate the National NCDs disease registry/databases relative to Cancer
• Participate in training and orientation of field staff
• Prepare regular reports on Cancer programmes for submission to the Programme Development Officer – Cancer
• Prepares an individual workplan annually and submit quarterly reviews.
• Perform other related duties as assigned by the Programme Development Officer – Cancer
MINIMUM REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
• B.Sc. in Behaviour Sciences, Health Related Science or equivalent
• Masters Degree in Epidemiology or Public Health
• Five (5) years work experience in the health field
