JOB PURPOSE

Under the supervision of the Director, Systems & Information Technology, the Systems Administrator is responsible for ensuring that all servers, ICT equipment, services and solutions in the Ministry of Health & Wellness are operational and optimised. 

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITY AREAS

  • Administers group polices and operating systems residing on servers and workstations;
  • Troubleshoots enterprise hardware and operating platforms to identify and correct malfunctions and other operating difficulties;
  • Ensures system availability and monitors RTOs and RPOs to ensure uptime is within acceptable tolerance levels;
  • Collaborates with technicians around user support tickets escalated by the Service Desk Coordinator;
  • Provides on the ground support securing end user ICT assets in times of pending disaster;
  • Evaluates and/or recommends purchases of computer systems, network hardware, peripherals and software;
  • Manages global user profiles and permissions, along with shared directories;
  • Maintains and monitors adequate backup of user and system data to ensure recovery in times of disaster;
  • Vets proposed solutions in order to ensure connectivity and compatibility between systems;
  • Works with vendors to resolve system-side issues for test, development and production environments;
  • Prepares and disseminates notification for maintenance windows(and effects on system availability) via the service desk coordinator;
  • Maintains confidentiality and security with regards to the information being stored or accessed by the network;
  • Constructs and enforces network and security policies at the system level;
  • Document ICT Standard Operating Procedures for enterprise server/storage implementations and maintenance;
  • Recommends, deploys, manages and reports on the status of enterprise equipment utilizing available log analysis tools;
  • Designs, configures and deploys infrastructure to support projectised solutions, jointly with the Lead Applications Analyst;
  • Assists in the installation and maintenance of Network Management System (NMS) and/or monitoring tools;
  • Assists ICT management with drafting documents on the technological feasibility of proposals;
  • Develops and executes infrastructure-level tests, goals and methodologies;
  • Manages and maintains all documentation for enterprise infrastructure assets under the department’s change control regime;
  • Prepares monthly report on activities undertaken.
  • Performs other related duties that may from time to time be assigned.

  • Knowledge of the Linux Operating System (specifically server configuration)

 

MINIMUM REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Computer Science or equivalent
  • Minimum of 3 years of professional working experience with enterprise infrastructure
  • MCSA certification required
  • Hands-on/technical knowledge of core Microsoft technologies including but not limited to Windows Servers, Hyper-V, and Active Directory and associated backup methodologies
  • Familiarity with well-known network management solutions is preferred
  • ITIL certification is preferred

  • May be required to work beyond normal working hours. from time to time
  • The incumbent will be required to travel to health facilities/agencies across the country when necessary
