Jamaica has recorded 12 new cases of COVID-19 in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 638.
Also in the last 24 hours, the island has had SEVEN (7) additional recoveries, putting the overall recovery numbers at 458 or 72%.
The new COVID-19 cases consist of EIGHT (8) females and FOUR (4) males with ages ranging from FOUR (4) to 65 years. They are from St. James (4), St. Ann (2), Kingston and Saint Andrew (1), Clarendon (2), St. Elizabeth (1), Manchester (1), and Westmoreland (1).
Nine (9) of the cases are imported – EIGHT (8) from the United States and ONE (1) from Canada. The THREE (3) other cases are related to an imported case from the United States.
The new cases bring to 134 the number of imported cases and to 222 the contacts of confirmed cases. In addition, 39 are local transmission cases not epidemiologically linked; 236 are related to a workplace cluster; and 7 are under investigation.
Some 369 or 58% of the 638 confirmed cases are females and 269 or 42% are males. They range in age from 2 months to 87 years.
The island has seen a record number of tests over the last 24 hours. Testing numbers are now up to 18,621, with 1,158 new samples tested in the last day. Of the 18,621 samples tested, in addition to the 638 positives, there are 17,926 negatives and 57 are pending.
