The Pharmacist will provide support services to facility staff to improve the treatment, care and support and improve the continuum of care at the site level. The pharmacist will have the responsibility of identifying unique issues at individual site and developing and implementing a plan of action to correct the problems identified. Regular reports will be provided to the Treatment, Care and Support unit to advise on the progress made in addressing issues and improving the continuum of care.
In order to expand the service being provided by the private pharmacies and facilitate the development of more public-private sector partnerships, the pharmacist will assess the achievements of the current private pharmacy ARV distribution programme and make recommendations for appropriate pharmacies to be trained for inclusion in this programme.
- Review the private pharmacy ARV distribution programme and recommend and train additional pharmacies for inclusion in this programme based on their suitability.
- To increase the availability and accessibility of antiretroviral drugs to PLHIV, in public and private pharmacies by providing technical support to site, parish and regional pharmacists.
- To assess whether the private pharmacies continue to meet the guidelines set out
- To assess the number of patients benefitting from this service and their satisfaction with the service provided.
- Collaborate with Regional HIV Coordinators to identify and assess suitability of new pharmacies to be included in the programme according to needs of the regions.
- To coordinate training of additional pharmacists in private sector to begin dispensing of ARVs.
- To identify unique issues at individual sites and developing and implementing a plan of action to correct the problems identified
- To monitor the dispensing practices of ARVs at public and private pharmacies through audits, to prevent stock out and expiration of drugs at the site level.
- To attend monthly stock inventory at the National Health Fund
- To monitor supply from NHF to all dispensing institutions to ensure adequate supply of drugs
- To provide advice on stock management at the regional level to prevent stock outs where possible.
- To review monthly pharmacy reports to ensure that treatment protocols are being followed, to consult with Clinical Mentor to identify incorrect or unusual regimens being prescribed
- To review monthly inventory in order to more accurately estimate the average monthly usage of each drug. The Mentor will assist in the annual forecasting of antiretroviral drug supplies.
- To provide technical support in the evaluation of ARV drugs during the procurement process.
- To submit quarterly reports about pharmacy issues and challenges, stock management
The Pharmacist will report directly to the Director, Treatment, Care and Support and indirectly to the Senior Medical Officer, HIV/STI/Tb (HST) Unit.
Perform any other related duties, as assigned by the Director, Treatment, Care and Support and the Senior Medical Officer of the HST Unit.
- Key deliverables are produced within agreed time frames to required standards

- Computer literate with proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Access, PowerPoint)
MINIMUM REQUIRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
- A Bachelor’s Degree in Pharmacy from an accredited institution and Registration with the Pharmacy Council of Jamaica
- Eight (8) years’ experience as a Pharmacist
- HIV/AIDS knowledge and experience managing HIV/AIDS patients
- Training in Supervisory Management
- Experience in Inventory Management
