Environmental health operates out of a unit under the direction and management of the Health Promotion and Protection Branch. The unit is responsible to manage and provide strategic policy direction for environmental health programs. Although the Unit provides service through a multi-dimensional set of programs, the interrelatedness ensure that there is one goal to deliver quality environmental health at national, regional and parish levels.
The main areas of are in Vector Control, Food Safety, Occupational Safety and Health, Port Health and Quarantine, Building and Subdivision Plans (approving appropriate sewage systems), Water and Waste Water (regulating existing systems), Waste Management (include medical, hazardous and other solid waste eg domestic), Institution Health and Environmental Sanitation. The service delivery is strongly supported by the National Public Health and Environmental Laboratories.
